The Two Fatalities Named in the Providence Campus Shooting as Police Continue Manhunt for Perpetrator.

Two students who died in the recent violent attack in Providence were being remembered Monday – while an intensive search for their assailant persisted following the freeing by local law enforcement of the single suspect detained in connection in the case.

Honoring a Lost Student

Ella Cook, a sophomore from Alabama, was called “a wonderful, steady, devout, shining presence”, per the Birmingham's Cathedral Church of the Advent, which paid tribute to her at a gathering on Sunday.

Cook was second-in-command of Brown’s division of College Republicans of America, according to the organization. Karoline Leavitt also shared condolences publicly, saying in part: “There are no words. Keeping in mind her family and friends, particularly her mother and father.”

An International Student

The second fatality was MukhammadAziz Umurzokov from Uzbekistan, an Uzbek national in his freshman year at the renowned school, family members said.

His name was confirmed by the foreign office of Uzbekistan.

“He possessed remarkable kindness, humor, and intelligence. He harbored grand aspirations of entering the field of neurosurgery and assisting patients,” his sister, Samira Umurzokova said in a online post.

The Shooting Incident

An additional nine individuals were injured in Saturday’s attack in the engineering department of Brown’s university in Providence, during the university's examination week.

Law enforcement reported by the end of Sunday that a 24-year-man taken into custody in a police operation at a Hampton Inn about 17 miles from the campus earlier in the day was released from custody.

“A perpetrator remains free,” stated Peter Neronha, Peter Neronha.

He continued, “Sometimes you head in one direction, and then you have to regroup and pursue a different angle, and that is the current situation over the last approximately one day.”

Ongoing Concerns

Brett Smiley, Brett Smiley, acknowledged: “We know that this is likely to cause renewed concern for our city”.

The assailant opened fire inside a classroom in the building on Saturday afternoon, shooting over four dozen bullets from a 9mm pistol, a law enforcement official reported to the media outlet.

Law enforcement that searched the lodging found two firearms and magazines when the suspect was taken into custody, the news agency reported.

Condition of the Injured

Of the nine hurt, a single scholar was discharged from care, mentioned Christina Paxson, Christina Paxson. An additional seven were in critical but stable condition, and another was critically ill, officials reported on Sunday.

Durham Academy, a private K-12 school in Durham, North Carolina, said a former student, Kendall Turner, was among those critically wounded.

Cook was remembered at a memorial in Birmingham on Sunday. A reverend stated, “Her presence was a wonderful, steady, pious glow not only here growing up... but at the university she was a shining example in that specific location as well.”

A group leader, Martin Bertao, shared a message from the club. “Ella was recognized for her bold, brave, and kind heart as she worked for her branch and other students,” he said.

An American diplomat, Jonathan Henick, said he was “extremely sorrowful” by the passing of Umurzokov in a tribute. “We extend our sincere condolences to his relatives, companions, and schoolmates and mourn the loss of his potential.”

Saturday’s killings at Brown, the seventh oldest in the US university with about thousands of bachelor's and postgraduate students, occurred during one of at least 392 mass shootings reported in the US so far in the current year, according to data. Monday was the 349th day of the year.
