Larian Studios Reveal a New Divinity, Calling it Their Biggest RPG to Date

The buzz surrounding the recent awards show has been intense, particularly after presenter Geoff Keighley posted an enigmatic photo of a strange statue. The secret has now been solved. The acclaimed developer is working on a brand-new Divinity game.

Announced as Divinity, the game was showcased with a bold trailer featuring memorable imagery, from a burning man to an orgy and the literal unleashing of hell.

Moving Beyond Original Sin

For those anticipating Divinity Original Sin 3, that is not happening. Larian clarified that a follow-up to its beloved RPGs is not currently in development.

Nevertheless, the developer described this new Divinity as a evolution of the core franchise. This distinction hints that the team is likely crafting a faster-paced experience instead of another turn-based title. At this moment, this is speculation, as only a cinematic trailer is available.

A Pillar of Modern RPGs

The Divinity series is highly rated and arguably it pioneered the modern wave of deep computer role-playing games. These games are defined by detailed worlds, choice-driven narratives, and deep class systems—traits that later found massive success in games like Baldur's Gate 3.

While its world is traditional swords and sorcery, what truly sets Divinity apart is the immense freedom bestowed upon the player.

Where many modern RPGs have pared back options, Divinity is full of niche playthroughs that are viable by choosing a particular class or origin with a specific history of choices.

The series is also notoriously permissive, allowing players to experiment throughout the entire experience. Virtually all objectives can be solved in a variety of manners, often in unexpected fashion.

  • You might progress the story because you recalled something a dog told you.
  • Or, you could defeat a foe by teleporting a glob of lava in a clever way.

The Journey Continues

It is these creative systems that have cemented the series to hail games like Divinity Original Sin 2 as one of the best role-playing games ever made. Now, the RPG community can look forward to a new entry in this esteemed franchise.
